Empowering everyone touched by Autism to make effective choices

Well Autism151 is off and running! So exciting! If you’re hearing about Autim151 for the first time, it’s our initiative to collect 150 video stories of hope from all across the autism community. (You can read more about it in one of my recent blog posts – and you can always go right to the site!)

This has been such an important campaign because I think it radiates the message that we should all hold near and dear – stay positive and always, always have hope.

I am so thrilled people from the autism community are already adding their own stories to Autism151.com – and what truly amazing stories (and photos) they are! Such as the video about Alex, which highlights the great sentiment that “Alex has autism, but autism doesn’t have Alex,” or Mickie’s video, which captures a great moment when he is connecting with (and adorably imitating!) his grandfather.

I want to send an early thank you to those that have shared their story with all of us – and I want to ask you to share your story! It’s so important that we come together to cut through the negativity that tends to invade many of our discussions when it comes to autism. Focus on hope.  There are so many of these stories out there, like artist Jessica Park or David Hamrick and Lindsey Nebeker’s love story (the list goes on and on) – it’s about bringing them all together.

Do you have a video story to share? Or maybe you don’t have a video – a collection of photos will do the trick. To upload your video, visit the “Upload Your Video” section of Autism151. Or, to find out more information about building your video story, visit the “Video Tips” section.

Best,
Jenifer

Dear Jenifer,

This campaign is so cool! Thank you for creating this opportunity to share about our loved ones with others. The videos are inspiring and give such a different, yet much needed new look to autism.

I am sharing today your campaign with my readers at Special Needs Neighborhood.com blog. My cofounder and I, another mom of a child with autism, created Special Needs Neighborhood.com for parents of kids with special needs to connect with one another around local resources for daily living needs. You will find local resources from advocates to dentists to tutors, local events that target the special needs population, a community bulletin board and a blog.

I am pleased to find your blog today. Thanks, Kim
