In April we launched Autism151.com – a place where people can share their stories of hope, love and inspiration. It started out with just one video… Kyle’s story. We had no idea what would come of it. Would people visit? Would people share their stories? We certainly hoped the answer to those questions would be yes, but you never know. Well, now we do.
I am so incredibly excited and moved by the outpouring of not only videos, but of the great feedback we have been receiving. And even though Autism Awareness Month is over, we want to keep the initiative going so we can reach our goal of gathering 150 video stories (and we seem to make strides to our goal every day)!
When I look at Autism151, I am struck by the creativity and the emotion put into the videos. And although they all have that in common, each video is so unique and special in its own way – just like our children. For example, there’s the mother and daughter singing team featured in this video, and the story of Daniel, who emerged from his autism, and then there’s Charlie’s video, which closes with the beautiful sentiment of “People with autism are important and valuable and can teach you so much. BE OPEN.”
So let’s keep it going! Help us reach our goal – and even surpass it! (Hey, we can all shoot for the stars, right!?) Please check out the videos on Autism151 and spread the word – and if you have a story to share, we hope you will upload your video (it’s easy…promise!).
Best,
Jenifer
